Happy Birthday to Kelsey! My sweet and spunky daughter turns 8 today!

I'd post a picture but... I never got around to her birthday pictures yesterday! As soon as I have one, I'll post it. I promise!

Handy Photo Tip #1

Know when to fill the frame.

Unless the background is important to the image, fill the frame with your subject for more captivating pictures of your family. Get right in there and shoot a close-up!

Of course, sometimes the background IS important. So if you are documenting a stage of life or an event - for instance, your child at the zoo or on her graduation day - be sure to get enough background to tell the story.

A nice mixture of close-ups and documentation images will round out your family albums nicely.

Gone Fishin!

I had a GREAT time with these boys and their puppies! We were aiming for an old fashioned gone fishin' look. I think we achieved it quite well! They were certainly dressed the part, and who can resiste such sweet puppies? There are SO many to choose from, but these images jumped out at me right away so I thought I would share them. I can't wait to finish this session so mom can see them all!

I've realized that my musical selection in my studio is seriously lacking. The right music can really make all the difference in the world. It can relax us, make us happier and get our creative juices flowing! So tell me what you would like to hear while you are in the studio and I'll do my best to beef up my selection of CD's!

A Princess in Pigtails

Sweet Miss R. and her mommy came to see me today! They are a delightful duo! If I had to pick a favorite, it would have to be "The Princess in the Making" at the top. But the mommy/daughter images melt my heart. Miss R. is 2 years old and likes Fritos and Fruit Snacks and dancing to some cool kid tunes! Can't say I blame her.

Beauty in the every day - Part 2

Have you been looking for the beauty all around YOU lately? I created these beautiful abstracts from our city's brand new park equipment! The kids were loving it (and so was I)!

Beauty in the every day

Do you ever walk past something everyday and think, "That's really neat, I should take a picture of that." Then the seasons change and change again and then change again and you've never taken that picture? That happens to me all the time! In fact, we lived in our previous home for 10 years and only one time did I ever take a picture of our beautiful red maple. What is sad, is that it only takes one storm, one lightning strike, one flood and the natural beauty we all take for granted, can be gone!

So I have vowed to start recording those things more often. Maybe not everyday, but often. Then in the cold dark days of winter, I can look back on these pictures and remember that Spring is just around the corner!

Oh... and natural beauty can be anywhere. The purple flowers are growing in a ditch near the railroad tracks and this beautiful line of trees... my neighbors yard. Yep! It's right there, all around us, just waiting to be appreciated.
